GDM Continued

I went to see a dietitian on Thursday. I am not as stressed about it, but I do feel like I am starving now. I can only eat a certain amount of carbs per meal, and have one healthy snack in between. I have to check my blood sugar in the morning and after ever meal, which has been hard for me. It doesn't hurt to prick my finger, but for some reason I am afraid to do it every time, and it usually takes me about 10 minutes (or more) before I get enough courage to push the button that releases the lancet. I was doing pretty good on Thursday and Friday, but blood sugars have been too high, which doesn't make sense since I ate what I am supposed to eat. I hope I can control this with a diet. If not, they will give me a pill. If that doesn't work, I will have to take insulin and who knows how long it will take to get the courage every day to stick a needle in my skin!! Luckily the insulin is only for the worst case scenario. I just bought some testing strips today (I have to use one each time I test, so 4 times a day) and it cost 28 dollars for 25 strips! Yikes!! I hope this baby isn't as much trouble outside as she has been inside, lol!

GDM

I got the second Gestational Diabetes (GDM) test and it came out positive. I now have to go to a diabetes counselor and find out what I have to do with my diet in order to control it. There are lots of problems that the baby can get if it's not controlled properly. She can be born really big (Macrosomia, where baby is bigger than 10lbs), or Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) for example. I will find out more about it at the consultation which isn't until the 9th. I am a little stressed because in the meantime I don't know what I can and can't eat other than candy. Halloween is going to suck this year, lol! But I am glad that I have something to force me to be healthy. I'll post up more once I get more information.
